The Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Center and in Uttar Pradesh is carrying out deadly attacks on farmers in the country. "Farmers are being crushed by putting carts on their bodies," Rahul Gandhi told reporters. He also accused the government of deliberately provoking the farmers.
Rahul Gandhi sought permission from the state government to visit the spot after eight people, including four farmers, were killed when they came under the vehicle of BJP workers at Lakhimpur Khiri. However, the Togi government denied this permission to Gandhi and his delegation. After that, Rahul Gandhi spoke to reporters at the Congress headquarters. He also said that he would try to go to the spot today.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadhera, who was on her way to visit the spot with 10 leaders, has been detained by the police at Sitapur. "What mistake have we made that we are being prevented from going to Lakhimpur?" Rahul Gandhi asked. The party has alleged that Priyanka was not even allowed to speak to her lawyers. The Congress says the reason for Priyanka's arrest is not stated by the police or the administration
