PUNE – Lila Poonawalla Foundation (LPF), the Pune-based NGO, provides merit-cum-need based scholarships to underserved girl students. In an effort to support the students and their families during COVID-19, LPF partnered with Cognizant, one of the world’s leading professional services companies, to provide essential supplies.
Cognizant distributed a month’s supply of groceries and hygiene kits to the families of 600 LPF Scholars from 14 schools in Pune city and its rural suburbs. The parents of these Scholars are daily wage earners whose livelihoods have been affected due to the pandemic.
“LPF has always been at the forefront of aiding the families of LPF scholars in their hour of need. Through the support of Cognizant, we have been able to support over 600 LPF Scholars and their families. We are grateful for the support,” said Mr. Firoz Poonawalla, Founder Trustee, LPF.
“Cognizant is honoured to be a part of this critical and timely initiative by LPF to address the needs of underserved girl students and their families most impacted by the pandemic,” said Mr. Deepak Prabhu Matti, Global Head of Cognizant’s employee-led volunteering programme, Outreach. “LPF’s commitment to taking girl empowerment well beyond academics aligns perfectly with Cognizant Outreach’s focus on ensuring equal access to quality education as a means of community development.”
“My family and I are thankful to LPF and Cognizant for supporting us by providing a month’s worth of essentials. This will surely help us in the coming days. I hope many more organisations come forward to help those in need,” Arshiya, LPF Scholar.
